Janky throws down at New Orleans Cigar Box Guitar Festival

Oh yeah. Getting back to my neck of the woods. I have been invited down to play the New Orleans Cigar Box Guitar Festival.

The New Orleans Cigar Box Guitar Festival is a one-of-a-kind event that pays homage to a simple yet profoundly expressive instrument – the cigar box guitar. Held annually in the vibrant heart of New Orleans, this festival showcases the rich history and creativity associated with this DIY musical instrument. Whether you’re a seasoned musician or simply someone with an appreciation for distinctive and soulful music, this festival offers an unforgettable experience.

A Brief History

The cigar box guitar has a fascinating history that dates back to the 19th century. Originating from the United States, it was born out of necessity and creativity. Crafted from empty cigar boxes, a piece of wood, and a few strings, these instruments have been used by musicians who couldn’t afford traditional guitars. Over the years, the cigar box guitar has become a symbol of grassroots innovation, reflecting the resourcefulness and ingenuity of musicians.

Junior Kimbrough’s Juke Joint on Google Earth

I even found Hitler's lair before we bombed it into oblivion (mess with the US and Allies and find out). I went through the years and found Junior's Juke Joint outside of Holly Springs, Mississippi. Here is a Google Earth breakdown. Enjoy.
