Junior Kimbrough’s Juke Joint Gallery
I am fascinated by Junior Kimbrough, his music and his juke joints. As most Delta musicians moved north to Chicago, the North Mississippi musicians like Junior and R.L. Burnside stayed in somewhat of a vacuum in Holly Springs as did their music. This is a gallery of images of Junior Kimbrough’s various juke joints, places and performances. I have collected these over the years from multiple sources via download and screengrab from videos. Check out the photography of Adam Smith, Bill Steber and Mark Hoffman.Their talents are timeless. I have met both and they are outstanding people.
Bill Steber Discusses Junior Kimbrough | Will Jacks
Steber’s images of spaces and faces beloved by those in the know, and sometimes by the world, capture the grit and ecstasy of Mississippi blues culture. His photographs grant access to a world that feels familiar and foreign at the same time, bringing a tap to our toes and a snap to our fingertips along the way.
