Janky finishing new release with Kinney “Kent” Kimbrough on drums

While recording one of Robert Kimbrough Sr.’s releases in Ashland, Mississippi—just outside Holly Springs—I was lucky enough to lay down some of my own tracks with the great Kinney Kimbrough on drums.

During the session, I kept asking Kinney for guidance—“What would Junior Kimbrough do on this track?” He pushed me toward hooks and melodies I never would’ve considered on my own. It was an incredible experience.

Being in the studio with Kinney was a true bucket-list moment. Now I’m finishing vocals and tightening up the guitars, and I’m calling the project The Beginning and End of All Music—the phrase etched on Junior Kimbrough’s tombstone.
