Great Jukin’ at Deep Ellum Juke Nights Hosted by Rev KM Williams

I was lucky enough to jam with two great blues greats in one night. Good times all around.

Most people outside of Mississippi do not know what “Jukin'” means. These days gigs or music performances are mostly bands that rehearse and prep and tell their friends and charge cover and do flyers and tweet what “you are going to miss”. Juking is not that. It is a “get-together” of people, not necessarily musicians to just make music which is typically blues. It is a good time. There is no set list. In most cases there isn’t even a sound system. But, the air is electric. You have to at least stomp a foot to participate. Reverend KM Williams, the local Juke Impresario, hosts these jams, every 2nd Saturday of the month. This March has local harmonica great, Jeff Stone, on fire. Ej Mathews sat in on a few tunes and the vibe was most awesome.

Junior Kimbrough Quote – One Chord

“My songs, they have just the one chord, there's none of that fancy stuff you hear now, with lots of chords in one song. If I find another chord I leave it for another song.”
